Possesses flocculation, thickening, shear, drag-reduction and dispersing properties, varying by ionic derivative (anionic/cationic/non-ionic/amphoteric). Soluble in water (viscous solution), nearly insoluble in common organic solvents; limited thermal stability, decomposes ~200–300 °C. Mainly a water-treatment flocculant/coagulant aid; also mining, paper, EOR, agriculture, textile, construction, cosmetics.
